Places to Visit

Ideally situated in the gateway to East Anglia, Pointers provides the perfect base for exploring the many historic attractions within the area or a welcome stop for those travelling from the ports of Felixstowe, Harwich and Dover to the north of England and Scotland.

Cambridge itself has a variety of places to visit, including the famous Cambridge Colleges. In Peterborough you can see fascinating archaeological discoveries and a reconstructed Bronze-Age village at Flag Fen. There are also magnificent cathedrals to explore at Peterborough and Ely, plus the birthplace and former homes of Oliver Cromwell, which are located at Huntingdon and Ely.

We are situated on the edge of the Great Fen – a wildlife development of international importance. Other local attractions include; the RSPB reserves to be found in the area; the Raptor Centre at nearby St. Ives; the Ramsey Rural Museum; Houghton Water Mill; Angelsey Abbey; Kimbolton Castle; the Nene Valley Steam Railway; Huntingdon Racecourse; Duxford Imperial War Museum; Wimpole Hall; Newmarket and the Horse Racing Museum - there really is something for everyone.

For the more sporting individual, you may choose to try coarse fishing on the local rivers or perhaps fly-fishing on Grafham Water reservoir where wind-surfing and sailing may also be found. Go-karting and hot-air ballooning is available locally and there are a number of marinas, which offer boat hire and other facilities. There are several excellent golf courses and a leisure complex that offers ten-pin bowling.

Where to eat

Many of the local public houses and restaurants offer traditional ales and good food.  In fact, in the surrounding towns and villages within a mile or two of Pointers there is a variety of restaurants to choose from offering a range of cuisines to suit almost every taste. We will be pleased to advise where required, and particularly recommend The Crown at Broughton. Johnsons Steak House. The Windmill at Somersham.
